The state creates a pheasant subaccount for license fees. The treasurer may invest the money and keep the interest in the account. Money stays in the account at year end. The department can spend it, when appropriated, only to buy and release live pheasants on suitable state-owned land.
If you are 18 or older, you must buy a $25 annual pheasant hunting license. This is in addition to your base hunting license. You do not need this license if you only hunt at a licensed game bird preserve, hunt on private land that is not in the hunting access program, or hunt on public land in the Upper Peninsula. People with a lifetime small game, lifetime sportsperson’s, or comprehensive lifetime hunting and fishing license are also exempt.
If your pheasant license is a stamp, you must attach it to your base license and sign across the stamp. Collectors may buy a stamp without attaching or signing it and without showing hunter competency. A collector stamp is not valid for hunting.
