Local airports need state OK for FAA aid

Local governments and airport authorities can accept federal or other help for airport projects. They must get Michigan Aeronautics Commission approval before sending FAA project applications. They cannot take or spend U.S. airport funds directly. The commission acts as their agent, and the money goes through the state treasury under grant rules. This restriction does not apply to funds granted directly to a qualified airport, unless federal rules bar that airport from accepting the money itself.
