Child care help for Guard families

The law creates a child care assistance program for Michigan National Guard families. The Adjutant General runs it, sets the forms, and sets the stipend rate each year. To qualify, you must be a Guard member in active service, not absent without leave, not under certain military charges, and meet any extra rules the Adjutant General sets. Your application is approved only if you are a single parent or your spouse is also an eligible Guard member, and the Michigan National Guard member benefit fund has enough money. The stipend helps pay for weekend drills and annual training, for up to 12 hours a day and up to 39 days a year.

Child care program starts after two bills

This law only takes effect if Senate Bill 542 and House Bill 4962 are also enacted. If those bills are enacted, it takes effect right away. Until then, the child care program and payments do not start.
