3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Survey restores markers on state line

The commission runs surveys to find and restore markers from the 1827 federal survey. It recovers mileposts, control points, and posts near lakes and rivers. It reviews each milepost, compiles records for county peer review, and resolves conflicts. It gives regular updates to the state land survey office. It does not replace lost corners unless Indiana takes part.

Grants favor Michigan survey firms

The commission hires surveyors by contract or gives grants to border counties. Counties can do the work or hire a firm. Contracts can only go to businesses incorporated in Michigan or with their main office in Michigan. Counties must keep this grant money separate from other state remonumentation grants.

Commission to survey Michigan-Indiana border

The law creates the Michigan-Indiana State Line Commission in a state department. It has five Michigan-licensed surveyors, one tied to each border county. The Governor appoints with Senate approval. Members serve two-year terms, get no pay, and can be repaid for expenses. It meets at least quarterly. Meetings are open to the public and records are available under FOIA. The commission and this act end January 1, 2030.
