Effective upon passage, the law lets Lee County’s Board of Supervisors add conviction fees by adopting a resolution. The fees apply to convictions in Lee County’s Justice Court, County Court, and Circuit Court. They are capped at $25 per conviction, or $50 for driving-under-the-influence convictions involving impaired ability to drive under Mississippi law. These fees are added to other assessments and court costs. The money must fund repairs, maintenance, and renovations of the historic Lee County Courthouse, a designated Mississippi Landmark. The authority to impose these fees ends July 1, 2029.
