Property tax relief for some surviving spouses

Beginning January 1, 2026, eligible surviving spouses receive a full property tax exemption on their Mississippi homestead's assessed value. You must be a qualified homeowner and must not have remarried. Your late spouse must have been an honorably discharged American veteran who reached age 90 by January 1 of the claim year. Alternatively, your late spouse must have been classified as totally disabled under the Social Security Act or Railroad Retirement Act. Disability classifications under another federal law approved by the Mississippi Department of Revenue also qualify.
