North Dakota auditor funding and staffing limits
The law provides $18.19 million for North Dakota’s State Auditor from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2027. This includes $12.18 million from the general fund and $6.01 million from other funds. Authorized staffing falls from 65 to 59 full-time equivalent positions. The office cannot spend its $626,476 new and vacant jobs pool directly. It must request transfers to salaries and wages under House Bill 1015’s guidelines and reporting rules. The budget includes $64,000 in one-time funding: $3,000 for new-position costs, $25,000 for peer review, and $36,000 for audit software migration. Of that funding, $50,200 comes from the general fund and $13,800 from other funds. The office must report its use to the next legislature’s appropriations committees; it is excluded from the 2027–29 base budget. The auditor’s annual salary is $139,256 through June 30, 2026, and $143,434 beginning July 1, 2026.
