Immediate death benefit for Guard families

If a North Dakota National Guard member dies while on state active duty, the Guard can pay a one-time death benefit. The payment goes to the designated beneficiary or the next of kin. The benefit is capped at the amount set in law. The statute text reads "fifteen thousandone hundred thousand dollars." Payments are made only if funds are available. This emergency law takes effect immediately.
