Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Geropsychiatric care moves to nursing homes

The health department selects skilled nursing homes to run units that only provide geropsychiatric care. It can add more units when current capacity is not enough, based on each facility’s experience, qualifications, and space. The state hospital cannot run a unit that only provides geropsychiatric services. The law sets no start date or funding.

Admission and priority for geropsychiatric units

A qualified practitioner must decide you meet skilled nursing criteria and need psychiatric or behavioral health care to enter a unit. The department must indicate you need geropsychiatric nursing home care, and you must be over age 21. Patients coming from the state hospital get first priority for beds. The law sets no dates or funding.
