Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

State agencies pay no teletype fees

State agencies that are paid from the general fund do not pay teletype fees. This applies only if the agency connects to the teletype system. These agencies avoid the per‑terminal monthly charges.

Federal and affiliates pay full teletype cost

Other law‑enforcement affiliated groups and federal agencies that use the teletype system must pay 100% of the division’s actual costs. Fees are set per terminal. The division calculates the actual cost for billing.

Monthly teletype fees for local law enforcement

The law charges city and county law enforcement a monthly fee for each teletype terminal. The rate depends on county population. Under 5,000 people: $40 per terminal per month. 5,000–9,999: $80. 10,000–14,999: $120. 15,000–24,999: $160. 25,000 or more: $200. Multiply by the number of terminals to get the monthly bill. These amounts follow a schedule tied to a base fee set by the director.
