The Teachers' Fund for Retirement Board has seven trustees and sets policy for the fund. The governor appoints two full-time teachers (not administrators) from lists of three sent by North Dakota United. The governor appoints one full-time school administrator from a list of three sent by the North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders. The governor appoints two retired fund members from lists of three sent by the North Dakota Retired Teachers Association. The state treasurer and the superintendent of public instruction, or their designees, also serve on the board. If a teacher or administrator appointee leaves that qualifying job, they must leave the board.
