Farmers pay higher barley and wheat fees

Producers pay 30 mills per bushel on barley sold to a first purchaser in North Dakota or delivered into the state. Barley a producer grows and uses as livestock feed is exempt. Producers pay 20 mills per bushel on wheat grown or delivered into North Dakota at the time of sale, including sales to a first purchaser through commercial channels. These are per-bushel assessments that apply at sale or delivery in the state.

New rules for Barley Council seats

The Barley Council has one elected member from each district. Members must live in the district and be participating producers. Each term is four years, starts April 1, and no more than two terms end in any year. Members are limited to three straight terms; appointed time does not count unless it exceeds one year. If a member no longer qualifies, the council fills the seat by majority vote for the rest of the term. If a district has no eligible candidate, the council appoints a participating producer from another district to serve until the next election; that person may run in that district.
