Physical therapists can order plain X-rays

The law lets physical therapists order plain musculoskeletal X-rays. They can do this only if they hold a clinical doctorate in physical therapy or complete a board-approved imaging training program. An authorized imaging professional must take the X-rays, and a licensed physician trained to read radiographs must interpret them. The therapist must send the results to your primary or specialty doctor within seven days of receiving the image. They do not have to send results if you have no designated doctor, or if that doctor already received the images. Therapists can use the results to decide on referrals or treat within their scope.
