Term limits and rules for water well board members

Each board member serves a three-year term and stays until a successor is appointed and qualified. No one may serve more than two consecutive terms. If a seat opens, the replacement serves only the time left in that term. The governor and council may remove a member for good cause.

Who serves on New Hampshire water well board

The law increases the New Hampshire Water Well Board to eight members. The Department of Environmental Services (DES) commissioner runs the board. Members are New Hampshire residents appointed by the governor with the council’s consent. The board must include the DES commissioner (or a designee), the state geologist, two active water well contractors with at least 10 years of experience, one active pump installer with at least 10 years, one licensed technical driller with at least 10 years, one active water treatment professional with at least 10 years, and one public member with proven knowledge and concern for water resources. These rules take effect 60 days after passage.
