Counties can create public safety funds

Effective 60 days after passage, counties can vote to set up a revolving fund for public safety work done outside normal duties. It can pay county employees or volunteers for event, road, and construction details, or other public safety needs. The county may put fees, charges, and other approved income into the fund, and the money can roll over each year. The county treasurer holds the money and pays out only when the governing body, or a board named at setup, orders it, and no further legislative vote is needed. Money must be used only for the fund’s purpose, and the legislative body may cap single or yearly costs or block certain purchases. The fund cannot pay for any item the legislative body rejected in the same year.
