NH timber gets SPF grading and state preference

Starting 60 days after the law’s passage, New Hampshire timber businesses get two changes. Softwood cut in New Hampshire at or above 44° North can be graded as spruce‑pine‑fir (SPF). The wood must be a species in the SPF group under the American Softwood Lumber Standard (PS 20) and meet structural and visual grades set by an agency accredited by the American Lumber Standard Committee. Also, material specs for any state‑funded building must prefer lumber harvested in New Hampshire, unless the design requires imported lumber.
