Property tax on mature timber, credit allowed

Beginning April 1, 2025, towns can tax standing timber as regular property. This applies when officials decide the timber was not cut once mature and the town lost revenue. Timber kept for carbon storage on land in the state registry counts too. The bill follows normal property tax assessment and appeal rights. Any tax you pay now becomes a credit against a later timber yield tax on the same wood.
