Towns can fund and save for forests
The law lets cities and towns raise and spend money to start or care for a town forest. Money for the forest can go into a special forest maintenance fund. The fund can build up year to year unless the local legislative body votes to change that. If the forestry committee finds extra money in the fund, it can offer the surplus to the town’s general fund, and the governing body must vote to accept it. The law takes effect 60 days after passage.
