Free blue envelopes for drivers with autism
Beginning January 1, 2026, the state offers a free Blue Envelope for drivers with autism. The DMV designs and provides it, with guidance printed on the outside to help during police stops. The envelope holds your license, registration, and any health information you choose, and has space for an emergency contact. You can request one if you have autism; a parent or guardian may request it for a minor, and proof of autism is required. The instructions say to attach it to the driver’s visor, facing the driver, for quick, safe access. The Commissioner of Safety may set rules on envelope content, acceptable proof, privacy of medical info, and visor attachment. Using the envelope is voluntary.
