Higher disaster aid cap for towns
The law raises the maximum state disaster grant for a municipality from $25,000 to $100,000 per year. A town or city can file more than one request in a year, but total awards cannot top $100,000 in that year. Requests must be filed with the Joint Legislative Fiscal Committee within 45 days after the Governor declares a disaster. Money comes from the New Hampshire Disaster Relief Fund, and the committee may approve a lower amount if funding is limited. The act provides no new money and takes effect 60 days after passage.
