Required subjects in New Hampshire schools

The law defines what counts as an adequate education by subject. It includes reading, math, science, and social studies with civics and Holocaust and genocide education. It also includes arts, world languages, health and wellness, physical education, engineering and technology, personal finance literacy, and computer science. Schools and the Department use these subjects for approval and adequacy standards.

When the new school rules start

The law takes effect 60 days after it passes. Schools, towns, and agencies follow the new rules starting on that date.

Shared school duty and funding formula

The law says the state and local school districts share the duty to provide an adequate education. It confirms local districts operate under state authority as part of one public system. The Department of Education now computes each town’s adequate education cost using the number of resident students (ADMR). The total includes all differentiated aid. This can change town budgets and local tax needs.
