Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
Minors can seek protection alone
Minors can ask a court for a protective order without a parent or guardian. They can also get services under this chapter without an adult present. Beginning January 1, 2026, courts and service providers honor these requests.
Parents and guardians can seek protective orders
A parent or guardian can file for a protective order for a child or ward. The abuse can be by anyone, not just a family or household member. A parent cannot use this chapter to file against the other parent; courts do not accept those petitions. Beginning January 1, 2026, these rules are in effect. This case can be in addition to a domestic violence order, and the court can combine the cases.
