Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 1 mixed.

Get hunting licenses and tags online

The Fish and Game director lets people get licenses, permits, and tags electronically. The director can also create and sell a special tag for air‑rifle hunting. Rules check residency and proof of hunter education or other required certifications.

No firing guns in dense town areas

You cannot fire a gun, including an air rifle, in the compact part of a town or city without written permission from the police or local board. Events may fire blanks for military, reenactment, funeral, or commemorative uses if the organizer tells police and fire before the event.

No spotlighting wildlife with air rifles

You cannot use artificial light at night to find animals if you have an air rifle on you or in a vehicle. The ban runs from half an hour after sunset to half an hour before sunrise. It also covers guns in cars, OHRVs, snowmobiles, boats, aircraft, and other powered craft.

Air-rifle hunting now allowed with limits

Hunters can use air rifles for small game if the rifle is at least .22 caliber and makes 12 foot‑pounds of energy at the muzzle. Air rifles can also take moose, bear, or deer if they make at least 200 foot‑pounds of energy at the muzzle. The Fish and Game Department sets detailed rules on how to hunt with air rifles. An air rifle is “loaded” when a projectile is in the chamber.
