New privacy rules and clearer licensing standards
Beginning 60 days after enactment, New Hampshire protects private communications between clients and licensed recreational therapists or respiratory care practitioners. Talks for diagnosis and treatment are privileged like doctor‑patient talks, except during official investigations. The licensing office sets clear rules for who can get or renew a license, scope of practice, ethics, and discipline. At renewal, licensees receive a workforce survey from the Office of Rural Health and a written chance to opt out.
Stronger licensing checks; 90-day supervised work
Beginning 60 days after enactment, applicants for recreational therapy and respiratory care licenses must submit fingerprints and a criminal history release. You pay the cost of state and FBI checks. After two failed fingerprint attempts, a police clearance may be accepted. A valid military security clearance may be accepted instead for active service members. While results are pending, you may work up to 90 days under direct supervision if you attest you have no disqualifying record. This 90-day option applies only if the licensing board is not in an interstate licensure compact. Background-check records are kept confidential.
