New study committee on homestead foods
The law creates a temporary committee to study homestead food recipe and process approvals. It has three House members named by the Speaker and one Senator named by the Senate President. Members elect a chair, and three members make a quorum. The first-named House member calls the first meeting within 90 days of the law taking effect. The committee studies current approval rules, how recipe changes are handled, and possible law changes to balance producers’ flexibility and consumer safety. Members get mileage at the legislative rate for committee work. The committee must send its report, including any bill ideas, by November 1, 2025 to legislative leaders, the clerks, the Governor, and the State Library. The act takes effect upon passage.
