Public schools cannot require masks

The law stops public schools from requiring masks. School boards and leaders of charter public schools and public academies cannot make mask rules for students or visitors on school property. "Facial covering" means any item that covers the mouth or nose. Masks can still be required for a specific class or activity, when another law requires it, as athletic protective gear, or when handling chemicals, fire, or other hazards. A mask can also be required under a student's IEP or a Section 504 plan. The law takes effect 60 days after passage.
