2024 property tax relief for charities
The law lets qualifying charities get a property tax exemption for the 2024 tax year even if they missed the June 1, 2024 deadline. The charity must show the local selectmen that the late filing was due to accident, mistake, or misfortune. If approved, the exemption applies retroactively for 2024 through the local abatement process (RSA 76:16) and lowers that property’s tax bill. The law takes effect immediately.
