Hiring preference for veterans and spouses

The law gives a hiring preference in state jobs to veterans, disabled veterans, and military spouses. For this preference, the spouse of an active-duty service member counts as included. Private employers may also give preference to veterans, active-duty service members, and military spouses. Employers can accept any state‑listed document, not only the DD214, to verify status. The law defines a military spouse as married to an active-duty member and listed in DEERS, and it aligns “eligible service member” with active duty.

State buys from veteran and spouse firms

The state can buy goods and services from service‑connected disabled veteran‑owned and military‑spouse‑owned businesses. It pays fair market value, set and updated by the procurement director. To qualify, the business must be 51% owned and controlled by the group, be incorporated in New Hampshire, operate in‑state, and be approved. The director can set rules for specs and delivery and request help to share orders. Other procurement laws still apply when they govern a purchase.
