Mandatory wildlife restitution and license hold
If you are convicted of illegally taking or possessing wildlife, the court orders you to pay restitution to the state. Restitution is required. Amounts per animal: marten, moose, or bear: $1,000 each; deer: $1,000 each. Wild rabbit, hare, muskrat, or gray squirrel: $50 each; wild turkey: $500 each. Ruffed or spruce grouse, pheasant, woodcock, ducks, or geese: $50 each. Fisher, bobcat, otter, or fox: $500 each. Beaver, mink, or raccoon: $250 each. Payments go to the court and into the Fish and Game Fund. If you do not pay, you can be held in contempt. You also cannot buy any Fish and Game license until you pay in full. These restitution rules take effect 60 days after passage.
Tougher penalties for repeat wildlife violations
After a third guilty finding within seven years of the first, the executive director must suspend or revoke your license. The suspension lasts at least 1 year and up to 7 years. If you have three separate Title XVIII violations in seven years that carry a license suspension, you are a habitual offender. You are then guilty of a Class A misdemeanor. The license suspension rule applies upon passage. The habitual offender rule applies 60 days after passage.
