Accessible machines at every polling place
Beginning June 30, 2025, every polling place in any city, town, or school district that uses an official ballot must have at least one accessible voting system. These localities must sign an agreement with the Secretary of State to use the equipment. The Secretary of State provides the systems and gives guidance on programming local ballots and on secure storage and maintenance. Local officials must store and maintain the systems under that security guidance. The prior pilot program is repealed and replaced by these statewide agreements.
State funds equipment for accessible voting
For the year ending June 30, 2025, the state deposits $100,000 into the election fund for accessible voting systems. The Secretary of State must use any available federal money first. The funds can buy tablets and other equipment needed to run the program.
Towns pay accessible voting programming costs
Beginning June 30, 2025, cities, towns, and school districts that use an official ballot must pay to program accessible voting systems for their elections. They must use the vendor chosen and contracted by the Secretary of State and cover any transfer of the equipment to and from the vendor.
