Public tracker for special education complaints
Beginning September 1, 2025, the Department of Education runs a system that tracks every state special education complaint. It records the filing date and the complainant’s contact. It records the respondent and school, any district law firm, a short summary, key dates, status updates, and the final outcome and fixes. The department posts a redacted summary online within 30 days after it sends the final decision. Posts show only the filing date, summary of allegations, findings and conclusions, corrective actions, the district name, and any district law firm. Each year by July 1 starting in 2026, the department posts an annual report and sends it to the state advocate, the advisory council, and the House and Senate education chairs. The report totals complaints, shows resolutions, flags patterns or system issues, and explains actions the department took.
