Higher fines for abusing disabled parking
Beginning January 1, 2026, parking in a space reserved for people with walking disabilities without a valid plate or placard costs at least $500 plus a penalty assessment. If law enforcement receives testimony as allowed by the law, the agency fines at least $500 plus a penalty assessment. Parking in or blocking an access aisle is $100 for a first offense and $200 for later offenses. A conviction under these parking rules carries at least a $500 fine plus a penalty assessment.
Stronger ID and display rules for placards
Beginning January 1, 2026, your hanging disability placard must show your driver’s license or ID number and a matching photo. You must carry that license or ID when you use the placard. You must hang the placard so it can be seen from the front and rear, or place it on the dashboard if there is no rearview mirror. If you do not display it as required, the fine is $100 plus a penalty assessment.
