New fleet registration for rental companies
Rental car companies with 50 or more in-service cars can register them as one fleet. You pick a common annual expiration date. Fleets get stickers that last two years, and you still pay fees per vehicle. You must show a current New Hampshire certificate of good standing to enroll and again each year when you pay. The DMV can ask for proof at any time during the 2-year sticker period. If you lose good standing or drop below 50 cars, the DMV ends fleet status and reverts the cars to normal registration. At least 60 days before your common expiration, you file an itemized list of all fleet vehicles. At least 30 days before that date, the DMV sends one invoice with state and town fees per vehicle and payment terms. You pay the full bill to the DMV, and the DMV sends the town share within 30 days. If you add a car mid-year, you pay a prorated fee and get a matching sticker. You cannot transfer leftover registration from a retired car to a new one. The DMV sets detailed rules for enrollment, canceling, filing, invoicing, and payments.
Inspection relief and emissions rules for fleets
For fleet cars bought within one year before or during the model year, you get an inspection at purchase and then no inspection until the fleet’s common expiration date in the second year. The car must show a valid inspection sticker. The state updates air‑quality plans and sets rules so fleet vehicles meet state and federal emissions limits. The fleet program and this inspection schedule start only after the state certifies that the U.S. EPA approved the needed air‑quality plan changes.
