More pediatric care beds and review

Beginning July 1, 2023, any pediatric intermediate care facility set up before that date can house 2 extra children. This temporary allowance ends June 30, 2026. The health commissioner can check if more pediatric beds are needed and report to lawmakers. With fiscal committee approval, the commissioner can increase a facility’s licensed pediatric beds.

Freeze on new nursing home and rehab beds

The law stops new licenses and bed increases for nursing homes, skilled nursing, intermediate care, and rehab facilities. It does not apply to rehab centers that only treat substance use or mental health. It also does not apply to continuing care communities with a certificate from the insurance commissioner (RSA 420-D:2). This can mean fewer beds and longer waits for long-term care.
