Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Telehealth care must meet in-person standards

Telemedicine care must meet the same standard as an in-person visit for your age and condition. If tests or a physical exam are needed, providers can use remote devices to do them. This includes eye care for glasses or contacts.

Telehealth prescribing for controlled drugs

The law lets licensed doctors, and some physician assistants, prescribe Schedule II–IV controlled drugs by telemedicine. It removes the old in-person exam requirement. A licensed prescriber must check on you at times right for your condition, at least once a year. All prescriptions must follow state and federal drug laws.

New telehealth rules start in 60 days

The law takes effect 60 days after it is passed. From that date, the new telehealth rules apply.
