Harsher prison terms for child trafficking
Beginning January 1, 2026, child sex trafficking crimes with victims under 18 are class A felonies with far tougher prison terms. For keeping or making a minor available for a commercial sex act or a sexually explicit performance, the sentence is at least 18 years and up to life. The offender does not need to know the victim’s exact age. A victim’s consent is not a defense. For recruiting, moving, or providing a minor, the same 18-years-to-life term applies when the offender knew or believed commercial-sex involvement was likely.
