Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Mandatory $500 fine for sex buyers

Beginning January 1, 2026, courts must add a $500 fine for each conviction as a prostitution patron. Judges cannot reduce or suspend this sentence or fine. If you cannot pay that day, the court may defer payment or set a plan. The $500 fine does not get extra penalty assessments. Court clerks send these fines to the New Hampshire Department of Justice to fund the Human Trafficking Collaborative Task Force.

Paying for sex is a misdemeanor

Beginning January 1, 2026, paying, agreeing to pay, or offering to pay for sexual contact or penetration is a class A misdemeanor. This applies whether the act is with you or with another person. The law also repeals the old misdemeanor clause and replaces it with this new offense.
