Limits on required parking at homes
The law lets local governments regulate accessory parking but caps required residential parking at one space per unit. Studios and one-bedroom units under 1,000 square feet that meet state workforce housing rules may require up to 1.5 spaces per unit. Multi-family buildings with 10 or more units may also require up to 1.5 spaces per unit. For all other homes, the maximum remains one space per unit. The rule applies to cities, towns, and counties, including areas with unincorporated towns or unorganized places, and takes effect 60 days after passage. This can lower building costs but may mean fewer on-site spaces for residents.
