Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
4 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
Easier net and minnow trap use
You may use a handheld dip net to help land a fish that is on your hook. You may use a circular drop net up to 48 inches across, or a square net of equal area, to take minnows for bait in waters without trout. In waters with trout, you may set minnow traps if each trap is 18 inches long or less and the entrance opening is 1 inch or less. These updates expand legal gear and size limits.
Hunters can finish injured waterfowl
Hunters may shoot injured or crippled waterfowl from a motorized boat. This action is exempt from the usual RSA 207:7 restrictions. The exemption only covers injured or crippled birds taken from motorized watercraft.
New $1 habitat fee on fishing
The law adds a fisheries habitat fee of $1 to each fishing or combination license for fresh waters. It applies to people age 16 or older. The executive director sets this fee by rule. The fee does not apply to complimentary licenses issued under RSA 214:3, 214:7-a, 214:13, 214:13-b, or 214:13-c (administrative fees may still apply). It also does not apply to a lifetime license bought in a prior calendar year.
Atlantic salmon commission dissolved
The law repeals the Connecticut River Atlantic salmon commission. The commission no longer exists under state law. This mainly affects the commission’s members and related stakeholders.
