Boater education rules due in 60 days
The New Hampshire Department of Safety must adopt rules to carry out these boater education changes no later than 60 days after this act’s passage. The rules explain course approvals and testing. This deadline does not change fees or who qualifies by itself.
New rules for NH boater certificate
Beginning January 1, 2026, you must complete a commissioner‑approved safe boating course that meets NASBLA standards. A classroom course must give at least 8 hours of instruction. If you are 18 or older, you must pass a NASBLA‑approved online exam that meets U.S. boating education standards and attest you took it yourself. If you are under 18, you may take a proctored exam approved by the commissioner, if offered. You must score at least 80% to get the Safe Boater Education Certificate.
