Free Hope Cards for domestic violence survivors

Beginning January 1, 2026, Nevada provides free Hope Cards to people granted extended protection orders against domestic violence. Applicants must request a card in their application for the extended order. The Attorney General works with district and justice courts to run the program, with preparation authorized upon passage and approval. Cards must be provided as soon as practical, no later than 10 business days after the order is granted. Cards can be physical, digital, or both, and remain valid until the order expires.

Criminal penalties for intentional Hope Card misuse

Beginning January 1, 2026, knowingly showing someone a fake or expired Hope Card to falsely claim protection is a misdemeanor. The offense requires intent to falsely claim protection under an extended domestic violence protection order. Cardholders do not have to carry or show a card.
