No forensic exam bills for Nevada survivors

Beginning October 1, 2025, Nevada health facilities cannot charge survivors for expenses related to a covered forensic medical exam. No police report is required to get an exam. Exams cover sexual-assault evidence collection or health assessments and treatment coordination after domestic violence, strangulation, or human trafficking. Facilities pay upfront and can request state reimbursement instead of county payment, with records showing the services provided. Nevada’s Department of Health and Human Services must reimburse facilities within 60 days of receiving a complete application. The department sets payment amounts by regulation, reviews them annually, and must protect patient privacy.
