Nevada coordinates children’s mental health services
The law creates a children’s mental and behavioral health office within Nevada’s Department of Health and Human Services. It must publish a statewide service plan, review regional plans and state programs, and report on progress each January 31. State and local governments must provide reasonably needed help; the office may seek grants, gifts, donations, and outside cooperation. Regional behavioral health boards must share information and make unified recommendations about children’s needs. The state behavioral health commission must review the plan and include its policies where appropriate. Beginning July 1, 2025, mental health consortia must send long-term plans to the office and collaborate as needed. They must submit service-priority and cost lists by January 31 in even-numbered years, and status reports in odd-numbered years. Where practical, consortia must coordinate with the department and office to avoid repeated or conflicting efforts. These changes support planning but do not guarantee families services or payments.
Nevada plans children’s behavioral health center
Beginning July 1, 2025, the office director must start establishing a Children’s Behavioral Health Center of Excellence after being appointed. The planned center supports provider training, service quality, and connections between children and qualified providers. A legislative progress report is due January 1, 2026, followed by an update by April 1, 2026. A final proposal, including funding and operating plans, is due to the department director by June 1, 2026. The department director must approve it or request changes by July 1, 2026; requested changes are due August 1, 2026. The law requires this planning process, not a direct payment or guaranteed service for families.
Nevada funds children’s mental health office
Beginning July 1, 2025, Nevada provides $1.113364 million from its General Fund for the office’s staff and operating costs. That money cannot be committed after June 30, 2027, or spent after September 17, 2027. Unused money must return to the General Fund by September 17, 2027. The law also provides $15,000 for equipment and supplies for fiscal year 2025–2026, beginning July 1, 2025. That money cannot be committed after June 30, 2026, or spent after September 18, 2026. Unused equipment and supply money must return by September 18, 2026. These funds support the office, not direct payments to families.
