Establishes the authority of the department of environmental conservation to manage Atlantic bonito and false albacore

New rules for bonito and albacore fishing

The law lets New York’s environmental agency set rules for Atlantic bonito and false albacore. This authority runs through December 31, 2029. The agency can set size and catch limits, seasons, closed areas, and gear rules. It can require permits and recordkeeping, and set rules for landing, transport, possession, and sale. These rules must be at least as strict as current state law and match Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and federal plans. Commercial fishers, seafood dealers, transporters, and recreational anglers in New York must follow them. The law takes effect immediately.
