Past transfer of Queens parkland confirmed

The law confirms any earlier transfer of the same Queens parkland to the MTA. This applies even if the city did not get prior state approval. It fixes that legal defect and lowers the risk of lawsuits over the past transfer. The validation is limited to the lands described in the act.

Small Queens parkland transferred to MTA

The law lets New York City stop using 951 square feet (0.022 acres) of parkland in Queens. The site is 3-11 Beach 104 Street. The land goes to the MTA so the Transit Authority can build a signal tower and a track crossover. The city must spend at least the land’s fair market value to buy new parkland or make park upgrades in Queens. If federal money helped that park, the city must follow federal rules first. Replacement land must be equal in value and usefulness. If the transit use ends, the land returns to the city for public park and recreation.
