Establishes the electric landscaping equipment rebate program; provides for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof

Business rebates for electric landscaping equipment

The law creates a point-of-sale rebate program for electric landscaping equipment. Eligible commercial landscaping businesses and public or nonprofit institutions can get rebates. It covers new, battery-powered devices bought or leased from a retailer. Corded tools, reel mowers, and tractors used to pull other devices do not qualify. Rebates are paid at the register, funded each year, and awarded first-come, first-served until money runs out. The authority may lower rebate amounts to stretch funds through the fiscal year. Rules, equipment lists, and rebate amounts must be set within 270 days of the law’s effective date. The authority must do outreach in English and the three most common non-English languages in New York. It must post remaining rebate funds online and report on the program within two years, then every January 1. The program ends January 1, 2036.
