20-year pension credit for Trumansburg officer

The law lets Mackenzie M. Covert join the special 20-year police and fire pension plan and get full credit for her service. The Village of Trumansburg must first file a resolution with the State Comptroller within one year of the law’s effective date, saying it will pay the added cost and that she did not miss out due to her own negligence. After that filing, Covert must ask the Comptroller for coverage within the same one-year window. Once both filings are made, her past service counts under the 20-year plan and she gets its rights and benefits. She was appointed as a Trumansburg police officer on February 13, 2017.

Village pays past pension costs

The Village of Trumansburg must pay all past service costs needed to give the named officer the 20-year pension credit. These retroactive pension costs are the village’s responsibility, not the State’s. This applies only to the costs required to carry out this law.
