Retroactive property tax relief for Merrick firehouse

Nassau County can accept a late property tax exemption application from Merrick Hook & Ladder Co. 1 for 1893 Oakwood Ave (Section 55, Block 127, Lot 62). It applies to the 2025–2026 assessment rolls: part of the 2025–2026 school taxes and part of the 2026 general taxes. The assessor reviews the filing as if it was on time. If the group would have qualified, the assessor may correct the rolls with approval from the Nassau County Legislature. If the exemption is granted, the tax authority may refund taxes already paid and cancel unpaid taxes, fines, penalties, liens, or interest for those rolls.
