People appealing building-enforcement orders can request faster handling by Ohio's state board or a certified local board. The board must start within one day and hold a hearing within five days, excluding weekends and legal holidays. If the board delays the hearing without deciding and asks for more evidence, you can request faster follow-up handling. You must request it within five days of the delay; the board must hold the follow-up hearing within five days. All parties must receive notice, but the usual seven-day notice and 30-day decision deadlines do not apply. Hearings can take place by phone or similar electronic technology. A faster-appeal fee applies only if the board sets one. It cannot exceed $500 per day the appeal is pending or $1,000 total; the law sets no actual fee.
