Beginning November 1, 2025, Oklahoma insurers cannot impose time limits on covered anesthesia during medical or surgical procedures. They also cannot restrict or exclude coverage or payment for anesthesia time. That time runs from patient preparation in the operating room or equivalent area until the practitioner stops providing anesthesia services. Time blocks around interruptions can count when continuous anesthesia care is provided during those surrounding periods. Payments follow medical billing standards: base units plus time units, multiplied by an anesthesia conversion factor. The time units must add up to the full anesthesia time.
